Heat Injuries
Learning Outcomes:
-
To understand the causes and progression of heat disorders from heat cramps to heat stroke.
-
To learn the signs and symptoms to differentiate between the three levels of heat disorders.
-
To know the correct first aid for each level, including when to call for emergency help and how to perform the 6-point cooling technique.
Lesson Content:
Heat disorders are illnesses caused by prolonged exposure to heat, lack of fluids, or the body’s inability to cool itself. These include:
-
Heat cramps

Heat exhaustion
-
Heat stroke (a life-threatening emergency)
Prevention involves staying hydrated, resting, warming up before exercise, and gradually adjusting to hot environments.
Causes

Prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
-
Intense physical activity without proper warm-up.
