Basic First Aid Skills

This course teaches essential First Aid techniques for emergencies, including CPR, AED usage, and managing injuries like bleeding, fractures and burns. Learners will gain confidence in providing immediate assistance, ensuring they can respond effectively to medical crises and environmental emergencies.

Unit 1: Essentials of First Aid

Understand the First Aider’s role, the limitations and contents in the First Aid kit. Learn to assess casualties through primary and secondary surveys, including CPR and AED use for emergencies.​​

Unit 2: Airway Conditions

Understand critical airway emergencies: choking, drowning, anaphylaxis, and spinal injury. Learn how to respond swiftly and safely to maintain a casualty’s airway open.

Unit 3: Breathing Conditions

Understand emergencies related to breathing: asthma and hyperventilation. Learn how to identify, manage, and provide appropriate first aid to support effective breathing and prevent deterioration.

Unit 4: Circulation Conditions

Understand life-threatening circulation emergencies: heart attack, cardiac arrest, shock, and massive bleeding.  Learn how to recognise early signs, provide immediate care, and sustain vital blood flow until professional help arrives.

Unit 5: Disability Conditions

Understand emergencies related to disability: stroke, seizure, hypoglycaemia, head injury, and alcohol intoxication. Learn how to recognise neurological or metabolic impairment, provide timely support, and prevent further complications.
