Disabiltiy Conditions

Lesson 1:
Stroke
Understand how a stroke disrupts blood flow to the brain. Learn to identify key symptoms using the FAST approach (Face, Arms, Speech, Time), provide reassurance, position the casualty safely, and call emergency services without delay.

Lesson 2:
Seizure
Understand the causes of a seizure. Learn how to keep the casualty safe during convulsions, avoid restraint, time the seizure, and provide care during the recovery phase while monitoring for breathing and responsiveness.

Lesson 3: Hypoglycaemia
Understand how low blood sugar levels affect brain function. Learn to recognise symptoms such as shakiness, confusion, and sweating. Assist with oral glucose intake when the casualty is conscious, and know when to escalate to emergency services.

Lesson 4:
Head Injury
Understand the risks of internal bleeding and brain trauma. Learn to monitor for warning signs like loss of consciousness, cerebral spinal fluid discharge or unequal pupils. Provide support while minimising movement, especially if a spinal injury is suspected.

Lesson 5:
Alcohol Intoxication
Understand how excessive alcohol impairs brain function and body systems. Learn to assess consciousness, monitor breathing, prevent choking in unconscious casualties, and provide recovery positioning while waiting for medical help.
